Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I am having a dispute with my landlord. Months have gone by since I told him the stove doesn't work properly. He has done nothing to repair it. I need legal advice.

A: There are organizations that provide free or reduced fee legal services. Some will give you telephone advice and counsel. There are limited cases when the agency will represent you in court. Each organization does have eligibility requirements, but they will determine if you are eligible when you call. We can give you the telephone numbers.

Q: The doctor has told us that my husband is dying. I just can't take care of him by myself anymore. How can I get help?

A: There are actually many different types of services available to you: Hospice, Visiting Nurses, Respite Care, and Transportation.

Q: My husband left me. My three children and I live in Portsmouth. We have very little money. Where can we go for health care?

A: One option for your family is a free or low cost health insurance program sponsored by the State of New Hampshire. "Healthy Kids" includes comprehensive health and dental services for children up to 19 years old. Also, there are healthcare agencies that will provide care for a reduced fee, based upon your income.
